Active Membership
Active membership is available to those who hold an MD or DO degree and who have demonstrated an interest and documented evidence of training in gender surgery. Surgeons should also demonstrate documented evidence of clinical activity, quality, ethics, and/or continuing research in gender surgery. Candidates must be proposed and seconded by active members in good standing and must have completed an accredited residency in- Plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Urology
- Obstetrics and gynecology
- Otolaryngology
- General Surgery
Candidates must be board certified by the ABMS-recognized board governing one of the above specialties. Members may vote, hold office, and serve on committees of the Society. International surgeons who have demonstrated excellence in gender surgery and who have achieved certification by similarly empowered international organizations as the American Board of Medical Specialties. Annual Active Membership dues are $275.
Associate Membership
Associate membership is available to those individuals with an interest in gender surgery who do not qualify for active membership. Associate members may attend scientific meetings and social functions, and may serve on committees. They cannot vote or hold office. Annual Associate Membership dues are $275.
Candidate Membership
Candidate membership is available to those who have expressed in gender surgery and must be enrolled in or have completed a residency program or fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery, urology, obstetrics and gynecology, or general surgery. Candidate membership status may be extended or granted while a candidate continues in training such as research or clinical fellowships. Candidate members are to be sponsored by an active member and endorsed by two other members (active or associate). They may attend scientific meetings and social functions, may not serve on committees or vote or hold office. This category is valid for up to five years. Annual Candidate Membership is complimentary.
